Artist statement

My work is inspired by age-old narratives and universal concepts, rich in symbolism. My subjects draw inspiration from fantasy novels, myths and folk tales from around the world. Having grown up immersed in stories from an early age, these were my journeys into distant and mysterious worlds that expanded the mind. This concept and research are the foundation of my practice today.

I’ve found my voice in watercolour due to its spontaneous nature. As pigment and water interact to produce unique, almost magical and unpredictable effects. These offer endless possibilities for interpretation so the viewer can read their own fantasy through the work. Free from conventional structures, each piece of work intends to communicate on an emotional level, inviting a personal response, and deep connection. I build each atmosphere through layered pigments, tactile textures, and a contrasting palette to evoke the imprint of these timeless stories.

Iryna Baydur is an artist of Slavic heritage, who lives and works in Turin, Northern Italy. After training at the Accademia del Disegno in 2025 (with) a three-year masterclass in watercolour, she honed her practice with a self directed illustration project in response to the book 'The Master & The Margarita' by M. A. Bulgakov. Studying with international watercolour masters including Yuko Nagayama and Nicolas Lopez, Iryna refined her distinctive loose technique. She continues to evolve her fluid style and conceptual process while studying at the New Masters Academy of California.
